Vaccinations for Cats

Feline Panleukopenia (Infectious Enteritis)

A highly contagious parvo type disease that most severely affects young kittens, but can affect cats of all ages. Causes enteritis with signs of vomiting, diarrhea and lethargy. The virus lives in the environment for a long period of time. It is often fatal.

Feline Respiratory Disease

Otherwise known as ‘Cat Flu’ or “Snuffles”. A common condition that is easily passed from cat to cat through the air. Causes symptoms such as runny eyes and nose, mouth ulcers and in severe cases permanent damage to the respiratory system can occur. In very compromised or young cats it can be fatal. Many cats act as carriers of this disease and although they may not show sign of it themselves; they can pass it on to unvaccinated cats.

**The above diseases are covered under the same vaccination (Tricat Trio). We would recommend all kittens at least receive this vaccination and its boosters. **

Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV)

An optional vaccine. This disease affects the immune system to the point where the cat is no longer able to fight off infections. The cat then becomes unwell and may die. It is mainly transferred from cat-to-cat through bites, and is not uncommon in feral cat populations.

Feline Leukaemia (FeLV)

An optional vaccine. This virus predisposes infected cats to blood and lymph tissue cancer, and suppresses the immune system. It has a low relevance within NZ but there are some active spots so check with your vet if this vaccination is recommended for you.
